ACH JHM PACC (Pediatric Academic Colleagues and Community) Sessions

Our residents will L.E.A.D the P.A.C.C during residency and in their careers

Mission

To provide a personal and professional development community for team-based learning focused around actual patient encounters where residents can apply skills and knowledge acquired in their LEAD sessions to promote enhanced individual and peer learning opportunities.


Vision

The JHACH Communities will be a product of patient-centered case discussions led by residents (representing all training levels) with in-depth peer and mentor involvement on a regular basis (2hrs per week, meeting 2-3 times per month).


Goal

Residents will apply the knowledge and skills learned in the annual LEAD sessions to actual patient cases with discussions expanding any aspect of the care of the patient. Residents will utilize the case based discussions with their peers to dynamically adapt their individualized learning plans throughout residency.


Impact

Providing a longitudinal experience where residents develop their skills as teachers and continually assess their individualized learning plans will promote synergistic achievement of ACGME milestones, competencies and desired career goals.


Format

At the community sessions, residents will examine a patient case as a team:

  • First year perspective: constructing patient patterns and identifying challenges
  • Second year perspective: continuous quality improvement science
  • Third year perspective: scholarship and research of issues surrounding patient care

1st half of session: Individual resident leads case presentation under training year-appropriate objectives

2nd half of session: Additional discussion from all residents regarding aspects of this case/encounter that inform knowledge and skill application as well as career focus and pathways.


Objectives

  1. Apply and expand innovative knowledge and skills related to individualized medicine, leadership, cultural competence, and ethics of care, continuous quality improvement, patient safety, and business of medicine to patient cases. Since the personal and professional development community will involve residents at varying levels of experience, there is significant opportunity for the team of residents to complement and augment each other’s applied knowledge from associated LEAD sessions.
  2. Identify future training directions and dynamically adapt educational experiences as individual residents and peers inform individualized learning plans (ILP).
  3. With peer involvement, provide assessment of resident’s goals/objectives where collegiality and team constructs will be perpetuated within the professional development community.
  4. Provide opportunities for individual and group-assessment of milestones and competencies in this setting.
