Anthony Napolitano, M.D.

Dr. Napolitano joined the neonatology program at All Children’s Hospital in 1988 and is Senior Neonatologist. For the past 23 years he has been medical director of the ACH Neonatal and Pediatric Critical Care Transport Team, which brings patients from throughout Florida and beyond to ACH for lifesaving care. In 2009, he was also named Medical Director for the 24-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Sarasota Memorial Hospital through its affiliation with All Children’s Hospital. In December 2012, Dr. Napolitano was appointed Chair of the Department of Pediatric Medicine at All Children’s Hopkins Johns Hopkins Medicine.

After receiving his medical degree from the University of Brussels, Dr. Napolitano completed his pediatric residency and neonatology fellowship at the Medical College of Virginia, where he was an attending neonatologist and assistant professor or pediatrics before joining ACH. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of the sections of Perinatal Pediatrics and Transport Medicine. He has served as a member and past president of the Florida Society of Neonatology.

Dr. Napolitano’s clinical research interests include the treatment of persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn, and he directed All Children’s participation in the early multicenter trials of nitric oxide therapy for this condition. He is also engaged in studies of nutrition in the premature infant and research on neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS), a constellation of symptoms in newborns exposed to narcotics in utero. He serves on a Florida State Collaborative to develop guidelines for the management of infants with NAS.

As a strong advocate for family-centered care, Dr. Napolitano formed a NICU Parent Advisory Committee to enhance communication among parents, physicians and staff. He has served as a member or vice chair of numerous staff committees at All Children’s Hospital Johns Hopkins Medicine.

Dr. Napolitano has received several teaching awards at All Children’s, including Attending of the Year. He was also honored by the State of Florida EMS, the Florida Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Pinellas County and Tampa Bay March of Dimes for his commitment to outstanding care.
